How do I prep for the tan?

You will receive an email confirmation once you have booked your appointment that outlines all of the prep instructions…but here it is again, because it’s important:

  • SHAVE: Make sure to remove all unwanted hair the day BEFORE your spray tan appointment. Whether you’re shaving or waxing, you want to avoid removing hair the day of your appointment (especially not right before) so it doesn’t interfere with the development of your tan.

  • EXFOLIATE: Exfoliating is *key* to ensuring your spray tan comes out perfectly and lasts as long as possible. Use an exfoliating mitt the night before ALL OVER your body to remove dead skin, old spray tan or self tan, and provide a smooth base for your fresh tan. No, your loofa is not cutting it when it comes to exfoliation. This is extremely important if you are a regular spray or self tanner - you don’t want to layer tans on top of one another, as the results may become splotchy and uneven.

  • NO PRODUCTS: Arrive to your spray tan appointment with NOTHING on your skin if possible. Avoid body lotions, oils, perfume, deodorant, makeup, etc. the day of your tan so that these things don’t interfere with your tan’s development.

  • NAILS: If possible, please get all manicures and pedicures done BEFORE your spray tan appointment. We apply a barrier cream and wipe off nails and palms after spraying you, so you can be confident that we won’t mess up your fresh nails.

  • OUTFIT: Please come dressed in your best spray tan marinating outfit - long, loose, dark sweatpants and a long, loose, dark t-shirt or sweatshirt. During the summer months, long dresses are okay but remember you don’t want any skin to skin contact. Slides or slippers are great options for footwear. Completely AVOID leggings, tight bras and tops, sneakers, socks, etc.

What do I wear during my appointment?

You can get as undressed as you are comfortable with during your spray tan appointment. Some clients choose to go fully nude, while others prefer underwear, bras, or bikinis to show off some tan lines.

Male clients must wear shorts or boxers.

How do I book an appointment?

All appointments should be booked on the GlossGenius booking website linked on our page. Appointments are not made by text, instagram message, or email.

What tan should I book?

A classic tan needs to be worn 8-12 hours before rinsing, while a rapid tan needs to be rinsed in 2-5 hours after the appointment time. We have all solutions available in studio at all times, so if you change your mind before you get to us, don’t worry, we can make changes at the time of appointment and after your consultation.

When should I book my tan?

You should book your tan 2-3 days before your big event to ensure that it has enough time to fully develop. Example, if your wedding is on a Saturday evening, you should book your tan for Thursday so that you have plenty of time for the tan’s full development and you can take a full shower with body wash before wearing your white dress.

If you are going on a long vacation, you should book your tan for the day before you leave if possible to ensure it lasts throughout your whole trip. Inquire about a tan extending lotion at your appointment if you want to really make sure you’re glowing as long as possible!

How long does the tan last?

Spray tans typically last 7-9 days with proper prep and aftercare. Using spray tan safe products is the number one way you can guarantee you will get the most out of your tan. Ask us about our spray tan friendly products sold in studio.

Is there a difference between classic and rapid tans?

Classic tans you will leave on for 8-12 hours before showering, which makes it the perfect option for people who prefer to marinate in their tan all day or sleep in their tan at night.

Rapid tans need to be rinsed off 2-5 hours after your spray tan appointment, which makes it a great option for people on the go. Remember, rapid just means rapid rinse not rapid development. Your tan will still continue to develop for the next 24 hours.

Both options are amazing and can be fully customizable depending on each client’s desires and skin tones. At Golden Hour, we carry multiple solutions options to make sure we can find the best shade for each client and are always updating with new, innovative solutions.

Can I spray tan if I’m pregnant?

The short answer is, check with your doctor first before coming in for a spray tan if you are pregnant.

We spray tan tons of moms to be but it is always a good idea to check in with your medical provider since every person and pregnancy is different.

Our spray tan room is equipped with the best extraction unit on the market, plus we provide nose filters, to alleviate inhaling any overspray. We are also happy to send over ingredient lists for anyone who needs to check in with their doctor.
